I’m am thinking of buying a four door truck soon. I’ve also been toying with the idea of trying Uber out, more as a bucket list type thing vs actual job thing. So I am perusing a forum where a guy is asking about using his four door Tundra and the people are trying to slaughter him. I have to say that for people that use their cars for work every single day they do not know how to calculate cost per mile or how to get decent gas mileage. This is an enthusiast site and I’ve seen people talk about getting better gas mileage than those people. It hurt my head.

You’re telling me a forum full of former taxi drivers is toxic? I’ll never believe it!

I’m tempted to buy a Honda CVCC that I will hypermile as an Uber driver. I’m sure the 5-star reviews will start rolling in.

Maybe they would make an exception for that like they did deadmau5.

I had to recently schedule an Uber for my grandpa to get to and from doctors appointment.
He was picked up in a Toyota 4Runner and driven back in a Nissan Armada
I can’t imagine those being fuel efficient, economic options.

My last Uber was a Tahoe Z71, and before that I’ve had two Suburbans.

My coworker was in an Uber the other day when a Lyft driver stopped in front of them without pulling over to let a passenger out. The drivers started shouting at each other, then the Uber driver grabbed an enormous knife out of the glovebox and went after the Lyft driver. In the end, no one was hurt but sweet Jesus. It doesn’t surprise me that he may have some trouble computing mileage.

Looking at the website, it seems like it varies by city. For example San Francisco doesn’t list trucks on their requirements page (unless you want to consider a four-door car as a truck), but LA does:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Uber offers several services—uberX and UberSELECT, to name a couple. Each service has its own vehicle requirements. However, all vehicles must meet the minimum qualifications below to drive in Los Angeles.
Model year 2001 or newer
Must be a 4-door car, truck , or minivan
Be in good condition with no cosmetic damage
Pass a 19-point vehicle inspection
In addition, some vehicles are not eligible to partner with Uber. These include:
Full-sized vans like Chevrolet Express or Ford Transit
Taxi cabs, government cars, or other marked vehicles
Salvage cars or rebuilt vehicles

I share the road in San Francisco with these people and “good driving” is rare. You’re lucky if they observe basic traffic rules, much less hypermile.
A rideshare driver in a Scion iA and I were driving down the same road at the same time. His strategy was to gun it to 40 from a stop and then panic brake back to 25 and then to the red light or stop sign. Sure, he’d blast past me from a stop, but I’d always catch him at the next stop light/sign.

How are these people making money? I once had a pizza delivered to me in a H2! People are crazy.

I stand corrected. Surprised to see they allow 2001 vehicles too. In Atlanta it has to be at least a 2005. I would of thought LA required newer vehicles than here, based on the lifestyle differences. They won’t even allow a new 4Runner here for Uber X, because it’s a truck based SUV (body on frame).

I could have sworn I’ve seen people talk about being picked up in trucks before.

Indiana is 2004 and newer, or maybe that is Louisville. I think one of the two is 2006 and newer.

Pizza delivery would be way easier since it’s normally around two miles and depending on location the tips can be worth it(my mom had a relative that would do it in his year old E-class and I believe it paid the payments in a college town.
